Focusing on the problem of crosstalk of non-parallel microstrip lines, the effects of guard traces to reduce the crosstalk is researched. The method that using guard traces on the basis of the main fringe-field coupling area between non-parallel microstrip lines is brought forward. The theory analysis and simulation results shows that placing guard traces in the main coupling area can reduce the crosstalk in equal efficiency and save a part of guard traces and the accessory via holes, compared with placing guard traces of the same length as the aggressor line. This method can enhance the efficiency of using guard traces and help to reserve more available routing spaces, which is also beneficial to reduce production costs of printed circuit boards at the same time. 
